Senior Judge Paul A Magnuson

judge paul magnusonPaul A. Magnuson was appointed by President Ronald Reagan and took the oath of office on November 16, 1981. He succeeded Judge Edward J. Devitt, who took senior status. In October of 1994, Judge Magnuson became chief judge when Judge Diana E. Murphy was elevated to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He took senior status on February 9, 2002.

Judge Magnuson was born in Carthage, South Dakota, on February 9, 1937, and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1963. Judge Magnuson was engaged in private practice of law for 18 years and was a partner in the firm of Levander, Gillen, Miller & Magnuson at the time of his appointment to the federal bench.
